Back to the old hobby: Playing the organ at a Wersi Performer!

Playing the electronic organ is one of my favorite hobbies. I am not a professional entertainer. After having lessons for about 6 months, I just like playing popular songs varying from pop to hymns.

An example of me playing at the Wersi (and singing myself):

Februar 2008: my first performance with Wersi Performer en Walther accordeon.

Just a small impression. I was asked to provide the musical ambiance for the wedding of Daan and Linda. And to keep it low profile. So I did. But finally, when guests were urging for some more fun, I also did the polonaise etc.

Autumn 2007 - now: Wersi Performer.

It's one of those things you can't get rid off: after several years without an electronic organ, I bought in autumn 2007 a Wersi Performer. Since the living room (with the piano) doesn't allow the space for another instrument, this one is located at my study.

Unfortunately the organ wasn't complete, but I completed it by a new music standard and the organ standard itself.

In the mean time I also reprogrammed the General Midi bank (bought from Thomas Orgeln in Germany), replaced the accu by two rechargeable penlights and loaded new rithms (via Paul Miller in the UK).

The tryout of the organ (still without general midi) was on a fancy fair in autumn 2007. I played together with my daughter (panflute) whilst my wife sold toys etc. As a bonus, I also implemented a karaoke.

1999 - 2005: Eminent Grand Theatre 2000

In March 1999, an acquintance called me and said that his boss wanted to sell an Eminent 2000 Grand Theatre. I first rejected, because I anticipated that the organ might be too expensive. Lateron, I called his boss and made a visit to inspect the organ. The man was really enthusiastic in telling that it is a great organ (and that he bought it new for about 20.000 dutch guilders). I convinced him that there are not many people in the need for such an organ. I tried it and bought it despite some minor problems. After cleanup and small repairement, the beast is fully functioning and gives me much pleasure. It is now standing in the middle of the living room. When I am a little stressed, I just play the organ for an hour or so, and I become totally relaxed.

It is a reliable organ: on March 1st and 2nd, 2002, I played this organ for 24 hours ! This has been done as fundraising for our church, together with other activities. Playing the organ raised approx. 900 euros.

Background sound: "Close2you" by Sarah Bryant (My style of playing is similar to hers).

1976 - 1992: Viscount C110, Yamaha B??, Farfisa, Yamaha B80.

It started at my elderly home. At first at a Viscount C110. Sometimes we could listen to the radio with this one!

Lateron my father bought a small Yamaha. Something like a B5CR, around 1970.

Together with my father, I owned a 3-manual Yamaha (as pictured). A really nice thing. But, when I lived in a small house in Almelo, and my children were born, the organ had to move. After getting a new house, I wanted to pick up this hobby again, and bought a badly functioning Farfisa with leslie. The organ was restored by myself, and fully functional. Unfortunately, I didn't like the sounds: they were not convincing enough. Later on, I bought the Eminent Grand Theater 2000 (see above).

Dromen...
I sincerely hope sometime to buy a more /modern/ organ. E.g. something less than 20 years old, to build in midi and experiment with it. Nice examples for me: Bohm emporio 600 or Wersi Louvre.

Nowadays I'm exploring the possibilities of an accordeon.
