Three years working for Greijdanus College in Zwolle! (Netherlands)
|
|
I have been working for Greijdanus College, starting at August 18, 2003 and ending at June 30th.

Major change for me since I switched from software development into eductional job in mathematics and informatics.
The students are aged 12 to 16 years; a reasonable challenge! Officially, I was unlicenced, so I joined the
teacher study at the same time. More info about this study, click:

Ericsson has decided on Oct 1st 2002 to close down the site in Enschede.
For me, this was in effect on June 1st, 2003. My new job started at Greijdanus College (see above).
I joined Ericsson at September 1, 1998.
This is at the site in Enschede (NL), part of Ericsson Eurolab Netherlands.
At first, I joined the Technology Development Department.
That's a very nice place to be in: thinking about new technologies, prototyping some ideas and when the
work needs to get into a product, provide the knowledge to the product developement groups.

I have been working on Bluetooth, a technology for short range (up to 100 meters)
wireless communication. Examples for the application are wireless headset to your GSM phone (left) and screenphone: tablet to browse the internet and
making a phone call (right).

As of September 2000, I have been assigned to Wideband Radio networds Node (WRN) departement.
Within WRN we focus on the development of the third generation of mobile telephony.
In particular our focus lies on design, implementation and maintenance of the hardware and
software for the radio base stations for Wideband CDMA, the successor to GSM.
Initially Ericsson’s customers will be mobile cellular operators in Japan and Europe.
The motivators for customers to switch to Wideband CDMA (W-CDMA) are the higher capacity
and the multimedia possibilities.
With the development of the Ericsson ‘mainstream’ technologies,
WRN is playing an important role in the New Telecoms World.
W-CDMA (=wideband code division mulitplexed access), more commonly known as UMTS or third generation mobile network.
It is Ericsson intention to be market leader in this area, and I hope I can contribute to that.
I worked on providing the so-called Mobile Simulator. This was to have an early mobile
to test basic functions of the basestations (pictured left; the machine below the antennapoles).
Most of this work took place in Lund (Sweden), at the Sony/Ericsson premises.
But I also visited Kista (Sweden) and Dublin (Ireland) quite a lot.
As of April 2002, I went over to work on the software for those basestations themselves.
Our mission is developing Radio Base Station products in a stimulating
environment that challenges professionals to grow.

Before Ericsson, I worked for Fluke in Almelo and as a member of the ScopeMeter developement team.
Amongst other things, I developed the digital ASIC of the Fluke123 and some driver software.
|
|
Before Fluke, I worked for Philips in the development group of Test&Measurement equipment.
After writing some embedded software for IEEE488.2 (=GPIB) control of a high precision DMM,
I worked on a VXI tester for automotive motor controllers.

As being a student, I had lots of different jobs, varying from acting as a carpenter,
a painter or selling fruittrees. I studied Technical Informatics, so combination of
hardware/software/system/.... Just after school, I had to fulfill my military duties,
and became 2nd luitenant for the artillery.
